Congressman Josh Brecheen, who represents Oklahoma’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on his social media accounts on September 29 and 30, addressing concerns about federal spending, state actions on immigration enforcement, and potential government shutdown.
On September 29, Brecheen commented on the rising cost of servicing the national debt: “The annual interest expense on the national debt currently stands at $1.13 trillion dollars, almost double what it was four years ago. This is $1.13 trillion flushed down the toilet for interest payments only—not principal payment. This exceeds what we spend on our entire defense” (posted September 29, 2025).
The following day, Brecheen highlighted recent state-level action in Oklahoma regarding commercial vehicle operation by undocumented immigrants: “Oklahoma is putting an end to illegal immigrants driving big rigs in our state! What happened in Florida, where an illegal with a California-issued driver’s license killed three people, further awakened the nation to this real danger.” (posted September 30, 2025).
Later that same day, he addressed looming concerns over a possible federal government shutdown: “Unless Democrats get their act together, the federal government will shut down at midnight. Let me be clear: House Republicans did our job and passed a clean continuing resolution (CR) to prevent a shutdown. Despite initially wanting a clean CR, Democrats are now refusing to keep” (posted September 30, 2025).
Brecheen has served as Oklahoma’s representative for its 2nd congressional district since 2023 and previously served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2010 to 2018. He was born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1979 and currently resides in Coalgate. Before entering politics at the federal level, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1997.
