Congressman Josh Brecheen, who represents Oklahoma’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to criticize recent Democratic legislative efforts and highlight the ongoing government shutdown.
On October 6, 2025, Brecheen posted, “The Democrats filed legislation (their alternative plan) that results in the continuation of the shutdown of the government. A total of $200 billion of American taxpayers’ hard-earned money would go to providing illegal aliens with subsidized healthcare. Sections of their bill https://t.co/N9rsTqpRnB”.
The following day, October 7, 2025, Brecheen marked the ongoing situation with a brief update: “#SchumerShutdown Day 7 https://t.co/NNapTnelsv”.
On October 8, 2025, he continued his daily posts on the matter, writing, “#SchumerShutdown Day 8 https://t.co/njblUClPqD”.
Brecheen’s remarks reference the broader context of a federal government shutdown and partisan disagreement over spending bills. The hashtag “#SchumerShutdown” is used by some Republican lawmakers to attribute responsibility for the shutdown to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party.
Josh Brecheen has represented Oklahoma’s 2nd District in Congress since 2023, succeeding Markwayne Mullin. He previously served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2010 to 2018 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Brecheen was born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1979 and currently resides in Coalgate.
