Congressman Josh Brecheen, who represents Oklahoma’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on social media regarding what he calls the “#SchumerShutdown.” In his posts dated October 5 and October 6, 2025, Brecheen marked consecutive days of the government shutdown and shared related content.
On October 5, 2025, Brecheen wrote, “#SchumerShutdown Day 5 https://t.co/iWpWTjl25Y”. Later that same day, he posted a link without additional commentary: “https://t.co/21A23uIebt”. The following day, October 6, he continued with another post: “#SchumerShutdown Day 6 https://t.co/42NU0PP3uL”.
Josh Brecheen has represented Oklahoma’s 2nd Congressional District since 2023 after succeeding Markwayne Mullin. Before joining Congress, he served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2010 to 2018. Born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1979 and currently residing in Coalgate, Brecheen graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1997.
The use of “#SchumerShutdown” by Congressman Brecheen refers to an ongoing political dispute resulting in a partial government shutdown at the time of his posts. The hashtag attributes responsibility for the shutdown to Senator Chuck Schumer and Democratic leadership—a rhetorical framing used by some Republican members of Congress during budget standoffs.
