Congressman Josh Brecheen, representing Oklahoma’s 2nd district since 2023, has recently expressed his concerns on social media regarding Medicaid spending and healthcare reforms. Brecheen, who succeeded Markwayne Mullin in Congress, previously served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2010 to 2018.
On May 7, 2025, Congressman Brecheen highlighted the projected increase in Medicaid spending over the next decade. He stated that “Medicaid spending from 2025 to 2034 is projected to be $1.2 TRILLION HIGHER than it was in 2021.” He warned that such an increase could potentially lead to financial strain on the federal government unless wasteful spending within the program is addressed.
Later that day, Brecheen criticized past policies implemented by Democrats under Obamacare. He claimed that these policies pressured states into expanding Medicaid by accepting more federal dollars. According to him, this expansion has resulted in “flooding the program with able-bodied adults and diverting resources from the truly needy.” He emphasized the importance of reforming Medicaid and closing loopholes to ensure resources are directed appropriately.
In a separate tweet posted on May 7th as well, Congressman Brecheen commended a decision made by President Biden without specifying further details. He simply remarked “Great choice, Mr. President.”
Josh Brecheen was born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1979 and currently resides in Coalgate. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1997.
