Oklahoma Wesleyan University #5 Men’s Basketball Defeats Concordia at Battle in the Vault

OVERVIEW

#5 Men’s Basketball traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska December 20th for the Battle in the Vault with RV Concordia University. The Eagles went head to head with the Bulldogs in the Pinnacle Bank Arena and looked to improve to 13-1 on the season.

Defeating the Bulldogs 79-74, the Eagles improved to 13-1 on the season.

Trailing to the Bulldogs throughout a majority of the 1st half and heading into the 2nd half, the Eagles looked for a comeback and did just that. Outscoring the Bulldogs in the second half, the Eagles went on and scored 11 more points than the 1st and held the Bulldogs to 37 points each quarter.

Jaden Lietzke had himself a day in the paint, going 11-15 in field goals and scored 23 points for the Eagles. Along with Lietzke, Kaleb Stokes and Derrick Talton Jr. contributed highly to the second half scoring parade with a combined 33 points on the day.

Defensively for the Eagles, Kaleb Stokes, Jaden Lietzke, and Dylan Phillip all ended the night with 6 rebounds. Along with that, Talton Jr. accumulated 5 rebounds and 7 steals coming off a KCAC Defensive Player of the Week performance.

The Eagles ended the day outshooting the Bulldogs 58.6% to 42.9% in the paint, while the Bulldogs outshot the Eagles 30.3% to 12% beyond the arc.

UPCOMING EVENTS

With this victory, the Eagles conclude their 2022 play and are set to play the University of Saint Mary Spires in January.
