Oklahoma Wesleyan University Men’s Soccer End’s Their Season in Oklahoma City

#17 Men’s Soccer ended their 2022-203 season November 19th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the 2nd Round of the National Tournament. Ending the season 14-6-3 overall and 11-1-1 in the KCAC, the Eagles took home the KCAC Regular Season and KCAC Tournament Championship.

The Eagles had a rough start to their season, but battled back and become extremely successful throughout the remainder of the year. Being placed in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma bracket for opening rounds, the Eagles began the National Tournament as the #2 seed.

HIGHLIGHTS

 The Eagles played 23 games over the 22-23 season.

Scoring 71 goals as a team, the Eagles outscored their opponents 71-33.

Leading the Eagles throughout the year, Stefan Cvetanovic was a force to be reckon with. Cvetanovic scored 27 goals, had 6 assists, and ended the year with a .267 shooting percentage. Along with that, Cvetanovic was named the KCAC Offensive Player of the Year, as well as the KCAC Most Valuable Player of the Year.

Following behind Cvetanovic, Zlatan Ramic and Uros Rosic averaged 8.5 goals on the year and contributed to the wins as freshman.

 Defensively for the Eagles, Ilija Catic and Alfeu Bertini were outstanding. Alfeu Bertini was named the KCAC Defensive Player of the Year. Catic was in the box for the Eagles for a majority of the year, only allowing 20 goals, Catic ended the year with a .686 save percentage.

The Eagles ended their season with 8 shutouts, 71 goals scored, .564 shots on goal percentage, and averaged 15 shots a game, and a .206 shots percentage.

COACHES REMARKS

Coach Peterson is very proud of his team and stated the following,

“I am proud of the players and the coaches that have committed to the success of the program. Our players overcame adversity this year and arrived at our first goal. Winning the KCAC Regular Season Championship and KCAC Tournament Championship is a big accomplishment.”
