’Tis the season for traditions, and few traditions signify the holidays so much as the sending out of holiday cards.
But the selection of this year’s holiday cards at Rogers State University came about by a more untraditional means, as the design of the card was the result of a class project.
“Students in my Graphic Design III class were given the assignment to design a holiday card to present the university president for consideration for this year’s holiday card,” explained Kate Northcutt, RSU instructor of fine arts. “Through feedback from Dr. Rice, who provided the card’s sentiment and gave us some suggestions – one of which was a photo of students and/or the ‘Hunter’s Vision’ sculpture on campus, our students set about designing the card.”
Graphic design student Brya Nyberg designed the card, with Jacquelyn Zafres taking the photograph for the front of the card. RSU alumnus and staff member Andrew Nichols took the photograph for the card’s interior, and with Dr. Rice’s final approval, the card was printed and sent out for the holidays.
“We’re all very pleased with how the card turned out this year,” Northcutt said.
Nyberg, a junior from Seiling, Oklahoma, is in RSU’s graphic design program. Zaferes, a junior from Verdigris, Oklahoma, is in the strategic communications program at RSU. Nichols serves as auditorium media supervisor at the university.
