Rogers State University Hillcats Come Up Short Against Bearcats On The Road

Rogers State women's soccer (4-6-6, 1-4-4 MIAA) came up short on the road in a 2-1 decision to Northwest Missouri (10-4-2, 6-3-0 MIAA) on Sunday.

Libby Doyle scored her first goal of the season on the day. Tiffany Brittan made five saves on 11 shots faced in goal.

The first half was a defensive struggle for both teams as neither side got many offensive chances. The Bearcats outshot the Hillcats 4-2 in the period with three shots on goal compared to one. RSU's best chance in the opening 45 minutes came in the 28th minute as Maggie Brown fired in a shot to the bottom left corner goal that was saved by the NWMSU keeper.

The second half was the opposite of the previous period as both offenses came to life. Both teams took seven shots with the Bearcats making five shots on goal compared to RSU's three. NWMSU broke the scoreless tie in the 55th minute as they scored off a corner kick. Seven minutes later in the 62nd minute, they tacked on another goal to go up 2-0. The Hillcats earned a penalty kick in the 81st minute with Libby Doyle finding the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1. Even though RSU took four shots in the final six minutes, they couldn't come up with the equalizer.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 21 as they return home to Soldier Field to face off against Central Oklahoma on Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
