Oklahoma Wesleyan University Wrestling Outscores Bethany 44-12 in Lindsborg, Kansas

Several forfeits and pins created gave the Eagles a blowout over the Swedes.

Oklahoma Wesleyan handled Bethany, 44-12, Wednesday night in Lindsborg, Kansas.

The Eagles (2-0 overall, 2-0 KCAC) recorded seven bonus point victories and one decision. Bethany (0-4 overall, 0-3 KCAC) surrendered 24 points off forfeits.

"This week, we have battled the flu as a team," coach Tom Carr said. "The young guys that stepped into the lineup tonight fought hard and pushed to keep us in the match."

Zeke Wheeler started the Eagles' point parade with a forfeit win at 125. The lead didn't last long. At 133, Bethany's Braden Brimm dropped OKWU's Jake Stanton for a pin at 2:58. Stanton filled in for NAIA tournament qualifier Kolby Encinas.

Donte Lopez scored the final takedown in overtime to defeat Bethany's Kaden Goff, 12-10, in overtime at 141. The two traded scores throughout the bout but Goff's riding time sent it to overtime.

OKWU's Dregen Murray won via forfeit at 149 and Andrew Mahoney did the same at 157.

A bout later, at 165, the Swedes' Jesse Gardner pinned Blayke Brower in the second period. That's when OKWU took over. The Eagles scored 23 straight points to finish the dual.

Jaden Welden won with an injury default from Triston Vande Velde in the second period. Bartlesville's Carter Manley pinned Hunter Blix at 184. Josh Cortez, who put the Eagles in position to win against Friends, pinned Chase Pywell at 197.

OKWU's Dezi Johnsen finished things with an 18-1 tech fall against Rocky Whitehead.

"Carter Manley, Donte Lopez and Dezi Johnsen faced off against older and more experienced wrestlers and came through for the team. Their development has been outstanding."
